Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman has given fans a hint about where he intends to play his football in the face of Championship interest.

Chris Wilder's Sheffield United have been linked with a swoop for the 24-year old, who has emerged this season as one of Jack Ross' key players as the Black Cats hunt a Championship return.

He's been speaking to the Chronicle Live this morning and his comments seem to indicate that he's settled at Sunderland, with little intention of jumping ship this winter.

He's been discussing the winning run the side are currently on, their most prolific run of wins in well over a decade, but in doing so the midfielder has dropped a huge hint about his future intentions.

“I wasn’t aware that we’d won so many games on the trot in over a decade,” Honeyman admitted “I feel proud to be part of the team that I am immensely proud to be captain. But it really does feel as though we’re only just getting started – the best is definitely yet to come."

Those comments, 'just getting started' and 'best yet to come' certainly seem to suggest the home grown talent is set to remain at the Stadium of Light. He's been with the club since the age of ten and has recently found himself captaining the side.

He broke through last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions and has grown into a rounded and influential player for the current League One promotion hopefuls.

The Verdict

I can't see Honeyman going anywhere, he's spent 14 years with the club and has finally become part of their first team plans, why would he jump ship now?

Other club's interest is all well and good, but there's nothing to suggest he wants a move. If they do get a Championship return then they'll be a force in that division next season. Good times are on the horizon for Sunderland and Honeyman will want to be a part of that.
