Jack Ross is prepared to let defender Bryan Oviedo leave the Stadium of Light this summer, as reported by the Northern Echo.

The Costa Rican defender is currently on CONCACAF Gold Cup duty with his international side, but finished the season as a regular for the Black Cats, playing every minute of their play-off semi-finals and final.

That came after a patchy season in which he started as a regular, lost his place and then saw a deadline day move to West Brom collapse at the eleventh hour.

Showing remarkable attitude and character he returned to Sunderland and forced his way back into the side for the run-in.

He's now being allowed to leave Wearside, with Belgian outfit Club Brugge thought to be at the head of the queue for his signature. They finished third in the Belgian top-flight last season and are eligible for the Champions League third qualifying round, meaning a quick sale is highly possible.

29-year-old Oviedo joined Sunderland from Everton, linking up with David Moyes who also took him to Goodison Park from FC Copenhagen.

The Verdict

Oviedo has earned his move away, there is no doubt about that. He has shown excellent attitude and is someone the Black Cats have been able to rely on.

Their supporters might be sad to see him go, but with Reece James and Denver Hume available at left back, it doesn't make sense for Oviedo to stay, not from a football point of view, nor a financial one.
