Sunderland are hoping to win the race to sign Jordan Jones from Kilmarnock, according to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Sunday 10th June, 11:45AM].

Jones has one year left to run on his Kilmarnock deal and has not yet committed his future by signing the new contracts they have put on the table for him.

Reportedly available for just £600,000, Jones is a player that Sunderland are very interested in signing.

New boss Jack Ross won the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year award last season after guiding St Mirren to the Scottish Championship title and he has made it no secret that he intends to strengthen his side with players drafted in from north of the border.

Jones fits the bill, having impressed for Kilmarnock in the past few years.

The Northern Ireland international has been chased by Championship duo Nottingham Forest and Norwich City, while Rangers are also an interested party, according to this report.

The 23-year-old netted four goals from the wing last season and has been a key player for Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.

Sunderland are hoping the former Middlesbrough youngster can help the promotion bid if he returns to the north east.

The Verdict

Jones would be an excellent acquisition but whether he wants to test himself at a higher level is a question Sunderland will need to ask.

The Black Cats could do with his threat from the wing as they look to improve their current options.

And given the fact that Championship clubs are hot on his trail, snapping Jones up for £600,00 represents a real bargain.
