Sunderland have offered Will Grigg to Shrewsbury as part of a player-swap deal to try and land midfielder Ollie Norburn this month, according to Football Insider.
Grigg has slipped down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light after only managing to find the net three times in his 26 appearances this term, and it is now understood that manager Phil Parkinson is prepared to let him leave the club.
It is being reported that the north-east outfit have included Grigg in an offer to bring Norburn to the club before the window closes, with Sunderland and Shrewsbury having failed to agree a transfer fee for the midfielder in their discussions so far.
Grigg has struggled to establish himself since joining Sunderland from Wigan in January 2019, and it now appears that the frontman is preparing to leave the club after netting just eight times in his 48 appearances for the north-east club.
The Black Cats are also reportedly attempting to complete their swoop for Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty before the end of the month, with the League One side thought to have made a new bid for the 23-year-old after their earlier talks had stalled.

Norburn is widely regarded as one of the most talented midfielders in the third tier which means his addition would represent an excellent piece of business for the Black Cats, and they are right to put all their efforts into landing the 27-year-old.
This means it makes perfect sense for the Stadium of Light outfit to include Grigg in the deal given it has not worked out for him at the club, and the fact Sunderland now have Kyle Lafferty means Grigg is becoming surplus to requirements at the club.
It appears as though Sunderland had been struggling to agree a fee with Shrewsbury to sign Norburn, so it will be interesting to see how the League One outfit respond to this player-swap offer for their coveted midfielder.
I’m not too sure on this move given that Shrewsbury might struggle to afford Grigg’s wages, but it at least shows that Sunderland are willing to do everything it takes to strengthen their squad this month.
