Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong has appeared to make a shock u-turn on his future, and seems ready to return to the Stadium of Light.

The midfielder has been awol for much of the summer and was expected to be moved on from the club, but now, in a report by the Sunderland Echo quoting Ndong's latest comments, he looks set to return to Wearside.

"I’m ready to see my salary reduced, as long as I’m putting my boots on with Sunderland. I’m ready to fight to get the club back into the second division." Ndong was quoted as saying.

The news and statement will come as a shock to Sunderland fans and manager Jack Ross, who will have planned for the season without Ndong in his thoughts, and Ross will now have an interesting decision to make in regards to a player who has so far failed to make any sort of impact in the English game.

Ross will no doubt seek talks with the player and his agent, and it would be fully expected to see Ndong make a full apology to his teammates and coaching staff at the Stadium of Light.

Ndong signed for the club two seasons ago but spent last term with Watford, where he failed to make an appearance for the Hornets.
