Sunderland have just over a week to go until their new season begins in League One and fans will be hoping that this year marks a change in their fortunes.

Of course, they are well away from where they want to be at the moment but with Stewart Donald and Jack Ross having a pretty productive summer, hope is just starting to grow on Wearside.

It seems, too, that Ross is not done yet in terms of bringing in new players with the Daily Mail reporting that the Black Cats have opened talks with Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones.

The 23-year-old comes from Northern Ireland and would represent the latest foray into the Scottish market from Ross.

A man who knows the game north of the border well from his St. Mirren days most recently, he's already utilised his knowledge to bring in certain signings and it looks as though that could continue here.

The Verdict

Kilmarnock's season has already begun up in Scotland and so Jones will already be up to speed match-sharpness wise.

If he is to sign for Sunderland that will obviously be a bonus and after Callum McMananaman left the club it makes sense that they are looking for a new winger.
