Sunderland are edging closer to completing the signing of Dylan McGeouch with the club holding 'positive talks' with the Hibs midfielder.

The Edinburgh Evening News revealed how the 25-year old, who is out of contract next week, travelled to the north east club to meet with chairman Stewart Donald and manager Jack Ross.

There is serious interest in the player, from the likes of Rangers, Aberdeen, Blackburn as well as having an offer on the table from Hibs.

However, the fact that McGeouch has met with the Black Cats has put them in a strong position to land the player, with the report stating that the talks went well.

Additionally, they state the former Celtic man is keen on playing in England having spent all of his career in Scotland apart from an eight-game loan spell with Coventry.

And, he will know all about the new boss on Wearside, with Ross having made a real name for himself north of the border after his remarkable job at St. Mirren.

The Verdict

This is great news for Sunderland although they won't get too excited until the player is signed as there is a lot of other attractive options on the table for him.

The fact he has held talks with the club is a major boost though and it would be a great deal for the team.

McGeouch would add class to the midfield and could be a star in League One.
