Blackpool are reportedly keen on signing Sunderland's Elliot Embleton on a permanent deal this summer according to The Sun on Sunday (30th May, page 59).

Embleton has spent the second-half of this year's campaign on loan with the Tangerines, and has caught the eye with some strong performances.

The midfielder has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Neil Critchley's side, and has chipped in with two goals and three assists in his time with the club to date.

Embleton will be hoping he can finish his loan spell with Blackpool in the best possible way, as they look to win promotion into the Championship on Sunday afternoon, when they take on Lincoln City in the League One play-off final.

He is out of contract with Sunderland this summer, and it remains to be seen as to what the future holds for the 22-year-old heading into the transfer window.

Sunderland missed out on promotion into the Championship themselves this season, as they were beaten by Lincoln City in their League One play-off semi-final earlier this month.

It is claimed by The Sun that Embleton is 'unlikely to extend his stay' with Sunderland, which could hint that a permanent move to Bloomfield Road could be on the cards in the near future.

The Verdict:

I'm not surprised by this at all.

Embleton has really impressed me in his loan spell with Blackpool, and could turn out to be a useful addition to the Tangerines' squad, even if they're to win promotion into the Championship this term.

Sunderland fans will have been wondering what could have been if they had Embleton in their team this season, as the Black Cats could have benefitted from having him in their squad, as they looked to win promotion into the Championship themselves.

It'll be interesting to see how much Sunderland look to demand for his services, as you'd imagine they're likely to be fighting a losing battle to keep him at the Stadium of Light, especially if Blackpool are to win promotion this afternoon.
