Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman has spoken of his pride following their win over Hull City last weekend, and marked out special praise for some of the club's young talent.

In an interview with the Chronicle, Honeyman was speaking about the Black Cats and their upcoming run of fixtures, but was also reflecting on his side's win over the Tigers last time out, where he spoke of being 'proud' when leaving the field with some of Sunderland's young talent.

Honeyman reserved special praise for the likes of Joel Asoro, and Josh Maja, while the Ethan Robson and substitue Lynden Gooch all played important roles in the win, having all come through the youth set-up at the Stadium of Light.

"It makes you proud when there are a lot of young lads from the academy on the pitch at first-team level, and you win games like on Saturday. I am really pleased for the club and the academy, that it’s finally paying off." added Honeyman.

Honeyman also added that the youngster coming into the squad had had an effect on plenty of other aspects around the club, including bringing a new intensity to the training field.

Sunderland manager Chris Coleman will be hoping to see more from his youngsters in the coming weeks as they continue to fight against relegation, while Honeyman also confirmed some of the under-16s had also been training with the club this week to impressive effect.
