Leicester City assistant manager Michael Appleton has admitted he is flattered to be linked with the Sunderland managers job after the club parted ways with Chris Coleman a few weeks back.

According to a report by the Sunderland Echo, the former Oxford United manager admitted that it was 'nice to be mentioned as a potential candidate' for the job at the Stadium of Light.

Appleton though, called for whoever takes the job to be given time at the club to rebuild what has been a sorry state of affairs for the Black Cats over the last two years.

The Sunderland job will be one of the most talked about vacancies over the summer, and Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has already been mentioned as someone who might well step into the void and fill the gap left by Coleman.

The new Sunderland owners will be keen to appoint a new manager as quick as possible, and will see Appleton as the ideal sort of man to come into the club, with Appelton having experience down in the lower leagues as well as top flight knowhow.

Sunderland fans, what do you make of Appleton? Would you take him as your new manager? Let us know in the comments!
