Sunderland left-back Denver Hume says he will come back stronger after suffering another injury set-back, he shared on Twitter

The young defender limped off against Coventry City back at the end of September and was set to return in the coming weeks, but it now looks like being a while longer.

"Disappointing to suffer another setback through injury," Hume wrote.

"But I’ll be working as hard as ever to come back even stronger than before."

Hume has made four appearances in League One for the Black Cats this season after being handed his first-team debut and the end of the previous campaign.

Jack Ross's side currently sit second in League One, two points clear of third-place Luton Town but four points behind table-toppers Portsmouth.

They impressively saw off fellow promotion hopefuls Barnsley at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday with Aiden McGeady, Josh Maja, Lynden Gooch and Luke O'Nien all scoring to win 4-2.

Walsall is the club's destination for the second time in a week this weekend in the second-round of the FA Cup.

The verdict

This is obviously a big blow for the youngster but judging from his performances and the way he has carried himself over the opening months of the season it will not hold him back.

Expect to see him back and performing brilliantly by the end of the campaign once again.

He will be a big player in Sunderland's future.
