Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole has emerged as a transfer target for Championship strugglers Hull City.

According to respected journalist Alan Nixon, the tough midfielder is wanted by Tigers manager Nigel Adkins to bolster his ranks for the coming season, and the clubs are  now reportedly working on a deal which will see the midfielder make the move to East Yorkshire.

Cattermole has made in excess of 200 appearances for the Black Cats since making the move to Teeside following a brief sting with Wigan, where he had made the move too after playing the first few seasons of his career with Sunderland.

A regular for the Mackems, Cattermole has become something of a cult hero at the Stadium of Light, with his energetic and often passionate displays winning over the hearts of plenty of supporters.

However, his time with the club could well be coming to an end as new manager Jack Ross seeks to shape his squad and cut wages from the first team, and Cattermole could well find himself back in the Championship sooner than he expected.

Sunderland are looking to win promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt this season and could well be in for a busy few days ahead of the transfer window closing this week.
