Sunderland could lose defender Bryan Oviedo this week, with several clubs interested in doing a late deal for the Costa Rica international.

Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie revealed on twitter this morning that the 28-year-old has plenty of admirers. "Bryan Oviedo is attracting interest from three overseas clubs plus one in The Championship."

The former Everton man has made 17 appearances in League One this season for the Black Cats, however he has lost his place recently to Reece James.

That has seen him manage just four minutes of action in the past four league fixtures, so Jack Ross may be willing to sanction a sale.

Additionally, Oviedo is sure to be a high earner at the Stadium of Light as he is one of a few players who were with the club when they were in the Premier League.

Whilst he will have seen his wages drop after relegation, the reality is he will still be on a hefty contract for a third-tier side.

Therefore, the chance to reduce the wage bill will seriously appeal, should a suitable offer come in.

The Verdict

You wouldn't be surprised to see a deal happen this week for Oviedo because it would make sense financially.

Even though he's not a starter, he would be a useful player for Ross to have in the squad but ultimately this could be out of his hands.

Either way, we shall see how it plays out but a move could suit all parties.
