Sunderland need goals and with just hours left in the transfer window Chris Coleman and the club need to start pulling their finger out.

The Black Cats lost pretty worryingly to fellow strugglers Birmingham City last night and looked pretty toothless in the process.

If it wasn't clear already, then, it is now obvious that without a senior striker leading the line they are going to be in real trouble in terms of their survival bid.

With that in mind, then, it looks as though the Black Cats are going to go for it with today's printed edition of the Sun (page 53) claiming they are making a late bid to bring Jordan Rhodes in on loan.

Certainly, this has the potential to shake things up at the bottom with Rhodes a very capable forward at this level.

Of course, he's not scored many at all for Sheffield Wednesday this season but he still has the talent that once made him one of the most feared forwards in the second tier.

And, if Chris Coleman can sign him, this could be a potentially very impressive deal to seal.

The Verdict

Rhodes is a risk but he's probably a better risk to take than some of the other players we've seen linked with the club.

If Coleman can coax performances out of him then the Black Cats can still achieve safety for sure.
