It could be a busy evening for Sunderland on Transfer Deadline Day but one player will not be going anywhere.

That man is Ethan Robson who will be staying at the Stadium Of Light for the second half of the season.

According to Chronicle Live, the midfielder is going to stay on Wearside as part of Phil Parkinson's plans to add cover to his central midfielders.

It appeared that the 23-year-old would be allowed to go out on loan after impressing for Grimsby Town during the first half of the season, but it seems that he could be set for his big opportunity.

Phil Parkinson has opted to play Max Power and George Dobson as his first choice central midfielders so far this term.

However Grant Leadbitter is in reserve while new signing Josh Scowen is also in the mix for starting spot in the Black Cats' midfield.

Can you name every Sunderland player's shirt number this season?

The verdict

This will be a huge boost for Ethan Robson.

The midfielder is a boyhood Sunderland fan and so will be determined to make the grade with the Black Cats.

Of course he faces stern competition for a place in Phil Parkinson's starting XI but the boss has clearly already seen enough to suggest that the youngster has something to offer his promotion-chasing side.

It's now just up to Robson to take his opportunity when it materialises.
