Sunderland are plotting a late transfer swoop for long-term target Will Grigg, according to reliable journalist, Alan Nixon.

Nixon revealed the news on his Twitter and it's sure to keep Sunderland supporters guessing right up until the transfer window closes in just an hour.

It will come as no surprise to see Sunderland in the market for a striker this month after Josh Maja opted to join French side, Bordeaux.

Sunderland have reportedly already had a number of bids knocked back for Grigg and it will be interesting to see if they can pull this deal off.

The likes of Mo Eisa and Tom Eaves have both been linked with a move to Jack Ross' side on deadline day, but it seems as though those moves haven't materialised.

So Grigg seems to be their primary target and supporters will be praying they can get this transfer done in time before the clock strikes 11pm.

But with just one hour remaining of the January transfer window, Sunderland will need to act quickly to try and strike a deal for Grigg.

The clock is ticking.

The Verdict

Nothing like late drama is there?

I thought this deal was dead and buried but there could certainly be life in this one!

If they pull this off, he could prove to be the missing piece in the promotion jigsaw for Jack Ross' side.

They need to get moving, though.
