League One Sunderland could make a move for Forest Green Rovers striker Christian Doidge, according to a report by Sky Sports.

The Black Cats are hoping to add a new striker to the squad before the season gets underway next weekend and have targeted Bradford City forward Charlie Wyke for much of the summer, but could now turn their attentions to the 25-year-old Doidge.

The striker has smashed in 50 goals since signing for Rovers back in 2016 and has slowly built a reputation as one of the best goal getters outside of the top two divisions in England.

Sunderland manager Jack Ross is keen on adding to his squad before the season begins, and with the Wyke deal being harder to complete than expected, he could well make a move for Doidge, who it is believed is valued at £750k by his current club.

The Black Cats are looking to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking after enduring a miserable couple of seasons which has seen them tumble to successive relegations and make their way through a host of managers including Chris Coleman and Simon Grayson.

Sunderland fans, what do you think to this? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
