Scottish Premiership side Hibernian are facing late pressure to tie up a loan deal for Reading striker Marc McNulty, according to The Sun's Alan Nixon

McNulty, who is currently on loan at League One side Sunderland, scored eight goals in 17 appearances for the Leith club during the second half of the 2018-2019 season.

Last night, the Edinburgh Evening News reported that the 27-year-old's loan had agreed to be terminated with the Black Cats, paving his way to a return to Easter Road.

After only featuring 15 times for the Black Cats in League One, McNulty has grown frustrated on Wearside with his representatives applying the pressure to Phil Parkinson, according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

Journalist Alan Nixon, provided an update on the situation declaring that there has been a breakthrough in progress but suggesting it could go down to the wire.

McNulty has only managed seven league starts for the Black Cats this term and it seems like should this deal be done in time, he will head north of the border on Friday evening.

Sky Sports' Pete O'Rourke reported this morning that Sunderland were among a trio of clubs eyeing up a move for Scunthorpe United's Kevin van Veen, suggesting that McNulty could fall further down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light.

The Verdict

This deal does seem to make sense; Sunderland are chasing another striker in Kevin van Veen and have already bought in Kyle Lafferty this transfer window.

After only starting seven of Sunderland's 27 league games so far this term, McNulty is clearly determined to secure a move to Easter Road, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell last season.

With Sunderland set to cancel the loan deal and allow McNulty to leave Wearside, they could now press on with other attacking targets they have in mind.
