Jack Ross is interested in Marcus Maddison, as the new Sunderland boss looks to put transfer plans in place at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland moved to appoint Ross ahead of their League One campaign, with the ex-St Mirren boss now looking to get to work on transfers.

According to the Northern Echo, Maddison is one player on Ross’ radar, with the Peterborough United star looking like he will be on the move this summer.

Darragh MacAnthony placed Maddison on the transfer list last month, citing Peterborough’s failure to win promotion as the reason for his potential sale.

The 24-year-old, along with Jack Marriott, was impressive for Peterborough over the course of the 2017/18 campaign, with the duo amongst League One’s most influential.

Maddison scored 12 goals across all competitions for Peterborough, adding an impressive 23 assists to that total over the course of the campaign.

Reports from The Sun have confirmed that Reading are also interested in signing Maddison, with the Royals offering the 24-year-old a step up into the Championship.

The Verdict

Maddison would be an exceptional addition to Sunderland’s squad this summer.

The 24-year-old has shown real class in League One over the last 12 months, and securing his service would be a huge positive for Ross.

Championship interest in Maddison could prove to be a stumbling block in any potential deal, as the Peterborough man has enough quality to play at a higher level.
