Sunderland boss Jack Ross has revealed that he will assess several players, including Duncan Watmore, tomorrow morning ahead of their game against Gillingham.

The Black Cats host the Gills tomorrow night as they look to get back to winning ways following three successive draws.

Going further back, seven of their previous nine league games have ended all square and it's seen the Wearside outfit lose significant ground in the automatic promotion race.

Therefore, they are desperate to pick up maximum points tomorrow and Ross told Chronicle Live the latest team news ahead of the clash: "There are a couple of players that we'll have to look at in the morning, just because the games come thick and fast, but there's nothing major to add to the injury list after Friday."

The former St. Mirren boss then mentioned Watmore, who impressed on his last outing: "Duncan fits into that bracket of those who might be doubtful but his performance against Blackpool means he would very much fit into my thoughts if he's fit and available."

Bryan Oviedo and Kaz Sterling are two other players who will be pushing to be involved.

The Verdict

This is good news for Sunderland as the players are clearly getting closer to returning to the side and it presents Ross with more options.

Overall though, he is working with a very big squad and he has plenty of depth so no matter who misses out, there are still good alternatives available.

It's down to those that are selected tomorrow to deliver a big performance as it's a game they really need to be winning.
