Sunderland are set to battle Crystal Palace, amongst others, for the signature of highly-rated Hastings attacker Adam Lovatt.

Brighton and Watford are also said by Teamtalk to be interested in the Bostick South East division player, who has been catching the eye so far this campaign. His side are currently second in the division and the winger's rampaging performances are thought to be a key part of their early success.

Blackburn Rovers are thought to be interested from the Championship, with Luton also keeping an eye on Lovatt.

The 18-year-old joined Hastings from Eastbourne Borough.

After graduating from the academy programme, he has stepped up to first team action this season.

He's described by the Hastings website as an "all round-box to box midfield player who possesses excellent technique and physicality in equal measure. A reliable, efficient footballer who we at the Club have high hopes for."

Hastings travel to Leiston in the FA Cup this weekend where there will surely be a larger than usual crowd of scouts watching his performance.

The Verdict

It's hard to draw too much conclusion from a player at this level, but many great footballer have come from the non league scene to make a huge impact in the Championship and League One.

The only worry for Sunderland is many of the sides looking at him are southern based, whereas a move to the Black Cats would mean relocation.
