Sunderland in pole position to sign midfielder from title-chasers

Published

on

Wolves midfielder Ben Marshall has been out of favour at Molineux for an extended period of time now, which has led to a number of suitors in the Championship lining up to add him to their squads before the January transfer window slams shut on February 1.

At the front of this queue of suitors is Chris Coleman’s struggling Sunderland side, who are desperate for reinforcements, preferably with Championship experience, but do not have the money to pay out in transfer fees.

According to the Sunderland Echo, Sunderland are hopeful of getting a loan deal over the line for Marshall and their need to do so has been intensified by injuries to two other key targets.

Jonathan Walters of Burnley was on Coleman’s radar but it was revealed last week that he has had to undergo keyhole surgery on his knee and another, younger target, Manchester City starlet Lucas Nmecha could be out for a month through injury.

The Verdict

Sometimes a deal just makes sense for all parties concerned and one example of that is Ben Marshall to Sunderland.

He needs games, Sunderland need Championship experience and Wolves want to get a player off the wage bill who hasn’t played since November 9.

Sunderland fans – what do you make of the prospect of signing Marshall
