According to The Sun’s print edition, page 61, Sunderland are interested in signing Jason Steele from Blackburn Rovers, as they plan for their return to the Sky Bet Championship.
David Moyes’ side face the potential departure of Jordan Pickford this summer, with Everton interested in signing the goalkeeper, after an impressive season in the Premier League, despite Sunderland’s relegation.
Should Pickford leave the Stadium of Light this summer, Sunderland are lining up a move for Steele, who is currently heading for League One following Blackburn’s relegation last season.
Steele was a regular for Blackburn during the 2016/17 season, making 44 appearances across all competitions, but did not feature for Rovers after the defeat to Barnsley at the beginning of April.
The 26-year old goalkeeper started his career with Sunderland’s north-east rivals Middlesbrough, where he featured regularly at the Riverside Stadium between 2010 and 2014, before making the switch to Blackburn.
Sunderland fans… Do you think Steele would be a good replacement for Pickford?
