Chris Coleman is looking to bring Wales international Andy King to Sunderland but could face stiff competition for the midfielder from a host of Championship clubs.

The Black Cats boss knows all about King from his time with the national team, with the Leicester man an important member of the Wales squad that reached the Euro 2016 semi-final.

And, Coleman will be hoping that connection gives them the edge over Middlesbrough and Bristol City who have also shown an interest in the 29-year old, according to the Daily Mail.

Foxes boss Claude Puel didn’t rule out a move for King, who has struggled to feature since the ex-Southampton manager took over.

We will see with Andy. I appreciate him because he is professional and an example to the squad. Perhaps for some players without the game time they would like to go and we will see if there are opportunities for them.”

Sunderland travel to Birmingham tonight in a crucial relegation clash and will be hoping to have a busy deadline day tomorrow.

The Verdict

Andy King would be a fantastic signing for Sunderland but it’s going to be very hard to tempt him to Wearside.

The only hope Sunderland have is the manager, as the chance to play for sides pushing for promotion is obviously a much bigger appeal.

However, if they can get it over the line, a deal for someone with his experience, quality and leadership could be pivotal for the Black Cats survival bid.
