Sunderland are hopeful of completing a loan deal for Antoine Semenyo 'in the coming days'.

Reports from The Bristol Post previously reported that the Black Cats were plotting a loan move for the Bristol City starlet as they looked to bolster their attacking ranks.

The 20-year-old was also said to be attracting interest from Doncaster Rovers, with a tug-of-war situation likely to materialise.

The report claims that the Stadium of Light is the Robins' preferred destination for the teenager but that the player favours a switch to Doncaster as he feels that will offer more first-team opportunities.

Sunderland are thought to be offering to pay more of the forward's wages but Darren Moore made a presentation for Semenyo to attempt to convince him to move to the Yorkshire club.

But despite this, a transfer update from The Northern Echo has suggested that Phil Parkinson's side are confident of being able to strike a deal for the striker at some point this week.

Semenyo is highly-rated by Lee Johnson and the Bristol City hierarchy, with the Robins handing the young striker a four-year contract last summer.

He very much remains part of their long-term plans, but a move to League One could be key in helping him adapt to the rigours of life in the English Football League.

Can you name every Sunderland player's shirt number this season?

The verdict

Antoine Semenyo would be an excellent capture for Sunderland.

The 20-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in the EFL and he looks set be a key player in the second half of the League One season.

The Black Cats are hopeful  of pushing for promotion, and perhaps the Bristol City youngster would be the perfect man to guide them up the table.
