Sunderland have interviewed Sol Campbell over the vacant manager's position, according to Caught Offside.

The Black Cats are searching for a new boss following the decision to sack Phil Parkinson from his role after the 1-1 draw with Fleetwood Town over the weekend.

The Wearsiders have struggled for form so far this term and are currently on a run of six games without a victory in all competitions.

That has seen the club drop out of the top six, meaning that they face an uphill battle to secure promotion this term.

Plenty of names have been linked with the role, but it seems that Campbell is a name on the shortlist.

The former Arsenal and Tottenham defender reportedly interviewed for the role on Wednesday with an outcome to these talks expected to be given before the weekend.

A manager with experience at Macclesfield Town and Southend United, it's claimed that Campbell could be part of a 'major shake-up' at the Stadium Of Light with a new Technical Director also set to be appointed.

The Verdict

This is certainly an interesting link.

Sol Campbell has experience at the highest level of the game and so adapting to life at a big club like Sunderland will probably not be too much of a leap for the former England star.

That said, his managerial experience is lacking somewhat and I'm sure there'll be reservation from supporters over his credentials to guide the club to promotion.
