Sky Bet League One side Sunderland have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur striker Kazaiah Sterling on loan until the end of the season, the club have now confirmed.

The Black Cats have been in the market for a new striker this window to replace Josh Maja, following the club's top scorer's departure to Bordeaux for a reported fee of £3.5million last week.

And the North East club have swooped to land Spurs' Kazaiah Sterling on a loan deal until the end of the season, adding firepower to their already impressive attacking line.

The 20-year-old made his first-team bow for Mauricio Pochettino's men in their 3-0 home win over APOEL Nicosia in the UEFA Champions League last term, where he came on to replace Dele Alli.

The forward, who can also play out wide, has been in and around the first-team ever since, and came off the bench in Spurs' 2-0 away defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup, coming on to replace Lucas Moura in the 81st minute.

The exciting attacker has been prolific at youth level for Tottenham, netting eight times in 20 games to become the leading goalscorer in the Premier League 2 campaign last term, and has also been recently nominated for the Premier League 2's Player of the Month award for January.

Sunderland currently sit fifth in the Sky Bet League One table, four points off the automatic promotion places with two games in hand.

The Verdict

If I'm honest, this signing has really underwhelmed me.

Sterling is obviously a very talented player who has come through the ranks at Tottenham, but with the sort of players Sunderland were linked with, you have to say that this move is quite disappointing.

The likes of Tom Eaves, Will Grigg and Mo Eisa were all linked, and it seems unlikely that they will sign them now, with just a few hours to go until the window slams shut.
