Sunderland figure names 3 players set to leave the club this summer

Sunderland academy boss Jimmy Sinclair has revealed that three promising young players could head out on loan this summer, according to The Sunderland Echo.

Andrew Nelson, Luke Molyneux and Denver Hume could be sent out on loan again this summer to get vital experience away from the club on a temporary basis.

Nelson spent last season out on loan at Falkirk in the Scottish Championship, where he impressed enough to earn himself a new one-year contract extension.

The young striker scored four goals in 16 games and he could be sent out on loan again with plenty of clubs willing to take him, The Sunderland Echo understands.

Sinclair was full of praise for Nelson after a successful spell away on loan.

Academy manager Sinclair said: “It’s an important strand in a young player’s development to go out on loan and I think we’ve done really well this year, and hope to do better still next year.”

Molyneux and Hume could also go out on loan.

The pair made their first-team debuts on the final day of the season against Wolves and both are rated highly by the club.

But Sinclair insists they would develop better with regular minutes and that could mean sending them out on loan.

He added: “I’m really pleased that the club is now getting a reputation for putting good young players out on loan and giving them the opportunity to experience men’s football. Next year we hope that people like Denver Hume and Luke Molyneux and others will have that same pathway.”

Molyneux is a highly-rated attacking midfielder while Hume has pushed himself to the fringes of the first-team squad with his decent performances at left-back.

The Verdict

Both Hume and Molyneux would benefit from spells away from the club on loan, to reach the next level.

Nelson has enjoyed success away on loan and this could be a make-or-break year for the 20-year-old, who needs to impress if he is farmed out on loan again.

With impressive youngsters like Bali Mumba, Elliot Embleton, Josh Robson and Tom Beadling in their squad, perhaps it is time for Sunderland to hand out more first-team opportunities in League One, as they have done with the likes of Josh Maja and Joel Asoro this season.
