Former Sunderland star Danny Collins has delivered a damning assessment of Will Grigg's recent performances, saying 'he'd fancy himself to have a good game against him'.

The Black Cats' striker has had a season to forget so far this term as a lack of form has played its part in the club's poor performances this term.

Grigg has scored just one goal in League One so far this term, leading to criticism from supporters for his lack of goalscoring prowess.

Collins may have made his name at the other end of the pitch, but said that the striker needs to improve his output on the pitch.

Speaking on The Roar Podcast, Collins said: "He looks isolated at times. Balls are going up to him and he’s fighting with six-foot-two plus centre-halves. "But, at the same time, has his body language been positive throughout the games? Not really, for me. How well do you remember Sunderland's 2011/12 season? Let's find out!
“He can do a bit more and I know his game is balls in and around the box. Is the service good enough into him at the minute? Probably not.
“So, there’s a lot of issues to be addressed over the next few weeks and a corner needs turning sharpish.
“You know, I could still go out there now, and I’d fancy myself to have a good game against him with the service he’s getting." The verdict Will Grigg has certainly underperformed this season. Whether it's a lack of confidence, or a problem settling into life in Sunderland, the striker should be doing better than he is. Grigg is undoubtedly a key man for the Black Cats, and you'd think that a real priority for Phil Parkinson would be getting the 28-year-old back on form to get the team up the league.
