Sunderland are one of three English clubs interested in a move for 18-year-old Scottish winger Owen McGinty, a report from The Scottish Sun has claimed.

McGinty is currently without a club following his departure from Ayr's Under 18s side, having previously played for Rangers at the same age level, during which time he scored 12 goals in five games against their Old Firm counterparts Celtic.

It is thought that the Black Cats are now considering the possibility of a move for the teenager, although it seems they are not alone in doing that, with Premier League Bournemouth and Championship Swansea City also said to be keeping tabs on McGinty.

According to the latest reports, the highly-rated winger is now assessing his options before making a decision on his next destination, with a variety of clubs and leagues seemingly on offer to him.

The Verdict

This is an interesting one.

While the fact that he has played for the likes of Rangers - and produced that sort of record against Celtic - means you feel McGinty clearly has potential, you do have wonder why it is that a player with that apparent ability is currently without a club.

Even so, the amount of interest from across the English leagues here indicates that is not simply one club taking a chance on a hunch, meaning there could be quite a race on for the teenager.

It will therefore be interesting to see where McGinty ends up, with all three clubs arguably having their pros and cons in the eyes of the teenager when it comes to deciding to move to any one of them.
