According to Sky Sports News, Peterborough United's Jack Baldwin is wanted by Sunderland this summer.

Sunderland and Championship side Bolton Wanderers have both enquired about Baldwin's availability and he is thought to be valued by Peterborough at £250,000.

Baldwin is on the transfer list at Peterborough as they eye a major summer shake-up.

Sunderland and Bolton are hoping to prise the 24-year-old away this summer, although Bolton are in pole position.

The Trotters are able to offer him Championship football and are looking to take advantage of the fact that Sunderland must sell before they can sanction this deal.

Baldwin is predominantly a central defender but he can also play in midfield or as a full-back.

The Posh skipper joined the club in 2014 from Hartlepool United and has since well over 100 games for the club.

But now that Peterborough are looking to sell him, the East Londoner is going to have to pursue his career elsewhere.

Sunderland are in the hunt for a new centre-half after losing Marc Wilson and John O'Shea this summer and they also anticipate selling Lamine Kone.

Bolton are also looking for a centre-back after Reece Burke's loan ended with Nedum Onuoha another target.

The Verdict

Baldwin would be an excellent acquisition for either of these two clubs as he is a leader at the back despite his young age.

At Bolton, he could provide decent immediate back-up for Mark Beevers and David Wheater, while also being the long-term solution in that department.

At Sunderland, Baldwin would be the instant fix they need at the back as he has so much experience at this level already, despite being just 24, and he could guide the club back to the Championship by firming things up at the back.
