Sunderland face competition from Championship trio in the race to sign 30-year-old striker

According to TEAMtalk, Sunderland face competition to sign Ross McCormack from Aston Villa, with three Sky Bet Championship clubs entering the race for his signature.

Derby County, Reading and Hull City are looking to sign the 30-year-old this summer, with his time at Villa set to come to an end in the coming weeks.

Sunderland are desperately looking to add McCormack to their squad, but they now face serious competition from their Championship rivals to sign the striker, who has an excellent goalscoring reputation in the second-tier.

Between 2008 and 2016, McCormack was prolific during spells with Cardiff City, Leeds United and Fulham, scoring 116 Championship goals.

The striker’s most prolific season came with Leeds, where he scored 28 goals during the 2013/14 campaign.

McCormack also scored 21 goals for Fulham during his final season at Craven Cottage, before securing a multi-million-pound move to Aston Villa last summer.

After arriving at Villa Park with a weight of expectation on his shoulder, McCormack struggled, scoring just three goals for Villa before spending the second-half of the season on-loan with Nottingham Forest.

The 30-year-old’s move to the City Ground could not help him rediscover his best form, with the striker making seven appearances and scoring just once.

Where do you think McCormack will end up playing his football next season? Do you think he can rediscover his best form? Let us know your thoughts!
