Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing free agent, and former Watford, Swansea City, Wolves and Middlesbrough man Danny Graham.

The 34-year-old has recently left Blackburn on a free, with his four-and-a-half year stay at Ewood Park coming to an end. He leaves on good terms with fans though, having scored 53 goals in 152 appearances for the club.

This season however has been something of a struggle for the Englishman. He's managed just four Championship goals in 38 appearances, with the club this week parting ways with him.

It was an emotional send off that Graham sent to fans, but already he could be on his way to a new club, and a new opportunity in Sunderland:

Phil Parkinson's side would miss out on the top-six by just two points after the League One season was curtailed, and finished by means of a points-per-game system.

The system has since seen both Coventry City and Rotherham promoted to the Championship, with Wycombe winning in the play-offs. Sunderland then will be eyeing promotion back to the second-tier next time round, hopefully with Graham in their ranks.

He's actually an ex-Sunderland player - he spent three years at the club when they were a Premier League outfit, though he would only manage the one goal, spending much of his time at the club out on-loan.

The verdict

Although Graham's previous Sunderland experience was forgetful, the move could now be a better option for both. Sunderland would be getting a solid, proven Football League striker in Graham, who would in-turn have the chance to win promotion back to the Championship next season.
