Sunderland will look to sign Ross County defender Jason Naismith this summer, according to a report from Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The Ross County full back has been in impressive form for the last 12 months and is well known to new Sunderland manager Jack Ross, who worked with the 23-year-old during their time together with St Mirren.

And it now appears that Ross is set to make his move for the defender once again, as he looks to reshape a Sunderland squad in dire straights following their miserable relegation from the Championship last term under Chris Coleman.

Naismith has been capped at under-21 level by his county, Scotland, and will no doubt see a move to the English game and a club the size of Sunderland as something which can further enhance his chances of earning full international honours.

Sunderland are expected to see a major overhaul of their squad this summer and manager Ross will be waiting for players to leave before he starts making lots of signings. Trimming the wage bill and bringing in cheaper alternatives will be key for the Black Cats, and Naismith would appear to suit that requirement perfectly.
