Chris Coleman is set to take over at Sunderland after ending his five-year stint in charge of the Wales national team, according to BBC Sport.

The 47-year-old succeeded the late Gary Speed back in 2012 and the pinnacle of his time as the manager of the Welsh came in the summer of 2016 where he guided his team to the last four at Euro 2016.

Coleman will take charge of the Black Cats with the club languishing in the bottom three of the Championship and his initial remit will undoubtedly be to revive the flailing fortunes of the former Premier League club.

According to the report from the BBC, Coleman is expected to be officially unveiled in the North East on Sunday, meaning that he will be in the dugout for the Black Cats' tricky away trip to Aston Villa on Tuesday evening.

Coleman last worked in the Football League back in 2008 when he had a tw0-year spell with Coventry City and Sunderland supporters will be desperately hoping he can get back into the swing of things pretty quickly at the Stadium of Light.

The Verdict

Sunderland are a football club in complete and utter disarray. Chris Coleman deserves a medal for wanting to walkaway from a comfortable 'job for life' and step into the cauldron that is the Stadium of Light.

Fans are disgruntled, players don't look bothered and perhaps more crucially the club has developed a losing mentality in recent years.

The Black Cats could  have possibly done with someone who is a bit nastier that Coleman when appointing their manager on this occasion and it remains to be seen, in my opinion, whether or not the ex-Wales manager is the man capable of steering the club away from the relegation zone in the Championship.

Sunderland fans, what do you make to the appointment of Coleman? Can he guide you to safety? Let us know in the comments below!!!
