Sunderland are close to completing a triple transfer swoop, according to The Northern Echo.

Former Sheffield Wednesday defender Glenn Loovens is due at the Stadium of Light for a medical before completing a move the north-east.

The Echo also reports that Rangers' Greg Doherty is on the verge of being brought in by manager Jack Ross.

The League One side are also thought to have had a bid in the region of £250,000 accepted by Championship side Reading for midfielder George Evans, according to the Reading Chronicle.

Sunderland have made no less than six signing this summer as they look to rebuild their club after the destruction of two successive relegations.

And manager Ross has wasted no time in closing on three further targets as the Black Cats look to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt.

The Verdict

Sunderland swooping for three more players shows the rebuilding process is well and truly on track at the Stadium of light.

Ross has wasted no time in dismantling the side that has been burdened with total failure over the last two years.

If the three complete their moves, the signing count will be up to nine, with Ross hopeful of adding Mohamed Eisa to the Sunderland ranks. He is a player who they have shown a real interest in.

The Stadium Light has had a makeover itself with a new colour arrangement on the seats.

Hopefully, the positive activity off the pitch translates onto it, come the new season.
