Bundesliga side Hannover 96 are interested in signing Sunderland defender Papy Djilobodji, after Norwich City refused to sell Timm Klose.

According to a tweet from sports journalist Ronan Murphy, the German outfit have turn their attention to the 29-year-old centre back, following the Canaries refusal to sell their 30-year-old star centre back at any price.

The tweet stated: “Hannover have turned their attentions to Sunderland's Papy Djilobodji as Norwich would not sell them Timm Klose, according to Bild. #H96 #SAFC # NCFC”.

Djilobodji, who joined the ranks at the Stadium of Light in August 2016, has made just 22 appearances for the Black Cats.

Following a loan spell with Ligue 1 side Dijon last season, where the Senegalese international made 30 appearances, Djilobodji is yet to feature for Sunderland this season, and doesn’t look set to be in Jack Ross’ plans.

Sunderland have got off to a very strong start to the season, which is largely down to the business that new head coach Ross has done over the summer.

The Verdict

The sale of Papy Djilobodji would not affect the Black Cats season in the slightest, with the dominant defender rarely making an appearance for Sunderland.

Whilst Hannover 96 originally were after Canaries defender Timm Klose, it looks as if their attention has turned to Djilobodji as their top target.

It is a deal that could be beneficial to both all parties involved, if the move goes through.
