Sunderland have already been making some very notable waves in the current transfer window.

The Black Cats have moved quickly to strengthen their squad with the additions of the likes of Trai Hume, Patrick Roberts and Danny Batth from Linfield, Manchester City and Stoke City respectively.

This had added not only depth but also quality in a series of key positions at a time when the club are still working hard towards finally achieving a promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship.

Roberts in particular underlines that Sunderland still have a great deal of pulling power in the market despite spending a lot longer in League One than they would have initially anticipated.

And it seems that Lee Johnson isn't finished in terms of adding to his team, with another eye catching name having now come up in conversation this morning.

Tottenham Hotspur's Jack Clarke is said to be a player that the Black Cats have approached about a potential loan move to the Stadium of Light, as per a recent report that was published by Football Insider.

The 21-year-old has endured a frustrating time at Spurs since making his high profile £13 million move from Leeds United and has only been afforded four senior appearances to date, either side of loan moves to both Queens Park Rangers and Stoke.

A move to Sunderland would therefore offer the winger an excellent opportunity to not only get his career back on track but also to get regular minutes under his belt.

Clarke was once rated as one of the best young prospects in the English game but has fallen foul to potentially having been attracted in by the glitz and glamour of the Premier League at a very young age.

Many young players have gone down the same route and not recovered, so it is vital that he bounces back as soon as possible by taking in a successful loan spell.

And overall it is fair to say that a move to the North East would certainly tick all the boxes for the 21-year-old.
