Sunderland are interested in appointing Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder as their new manager, according to HITC.

The Black Cats have identified Wilder as their next target after Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes turned down the opportunity to take over the club yesterday, instead favouring a stay in Scotland.

Now HITC has revealed that Wilder, who led Sheffield United to the League One title last season, is the man they want to lead them into their first season back in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League last season.

Wilder has already began his preparations for the new season at Bramall Lane and has been busy in the transfer window, recruiting the likes of Nathan Thomas from Hartlepool, Enda Stevens from Portsmouth and George Baldock from MK Dons with more reportedly lined up.

A move to North East would be a surprise to many considering Wilder's close relationship with the club and the fact that he still has two years remaining on his contract with The Blades.
