It's safe to say that Bailey Wright has made a positive impact with Sunderland since he arrived at the Stadium of Light on loan from Championship side Bristol City.

The defender struggled for game time with Lee Johnson's side, so it came as no surprise to see him head out on loan for the remainder of this year's campaign.

Wright has gone on to make five appearances in total for Sunderland this season, and has been hugely impressive when he has featured for the Black Cats.

However, Sunderland were dealt a blow as Wright picked up an ankle injury earlier this season. However, recent off-the-field events have meant that the defender has had time to recover, and be fit in time to play his part in Sunderland's push for promotion into the Championship this season.

Phil Parkinson's side are currently sat seventh in the third tier standings, but are just three points adrift of second-placed Rotherham United heading towards the conclusion of this year's campaign.

It has recently been reported by the Sunderland Echo that Sunderland are confident of signing Wright permanently in the summer transfer window

Wright's contract with Bristol City is set to expire at the end of this year's campaign, and the Black Cats are reportedly confident in being able to land his signature ahead of next season.

The Verdict:

I'm not surprised to hear that they're keen to sign him permanently after his loan spell.

Wright has slotted in perfectly into the Sunderland defence, and he'll be a key player for them in the race for promotion when competitive action returns later this year.

He offers real leadership off-the-pitch as well, and is definitely someone that is capable of playing in the Championship if Sunderland are to return to the Championship this term.

I think it's only a matter of time before they sign Wright permanently.
