Sunderland are interested in signing Fenerbahce midfielder Ozan Tufan when the transfer window reopens in the summer, a report from Turkish outlet Fanatik has claimed.

Tufan joined Fenerbahce from Bursaspor back in the summer of 2015, and has since gone on to make 119 appearances in all competitions for the Turkish giants, scoring 11 goals.

It now seems as though the 24-year-old is starting to attract attention from England, with the latest reports claiming that Sunderland are interested in the midfielder.

The Black Cats are not alone in being linked with Tufan however, with Premier League sides Everton and Southampton also thought to be monitoring the progress of the Turkish international.

To date, Tufan has made 47 appearances for his country, scoring five goals - including one in a Euro 2016 victory over the Czech Republic.

It seems however, as though securing Tufan's services will not be easy for Sunderland, as it is thought that Fenerbahce are demanding €20million for the midfielder, and will take their asking price no lower than €18million.

There are also three-and-a-half years remaining on Tufan's contract at Galatasaray, securing his future with the Turkish giants until the end of the 2022/2023 season.

The Verdict

This would be an excellent signing for Sunderland, but it does seem rather hard to imagine it could happen.

With his top-flight and international experience, it certainly seems as though Tufan would be capable of making an impact for Sunderland next season, whether they are in the Championship or League One.

However, the size of the fee demanded by Galatasaray means it is hard to see this being a move Sunderland would be able to afford, even if they do win promotion to the second-tier before the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Even if they are able to do that, then you imagine the chance to play in the Premier League with Everton or Southampton - should their interest be confirmed - would be a much more tempting proposition for the midfielder.
