Sunderland are set to seal the signing of Liverpool youngster Ovie Ejaria on a loan deal until the end of the season, according to reports in The Sun.

The 20-year-old joined Liverpool in 2014 from Arsenal’s academy, making his Premier League debut in 2016 against Watford.

The London-born midfielder has gone on to make a further top flight appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but with the youngster a long way down the pecking order at Anfield, Klopp looks likely to allow the player to continue his development with the Wearsiders.

The Black Cats are in deep trouble towards the bottom of the second tier table, and manager Chris Coleman is in desperate need of reinforcements as the club look to avoid consecutive relegations.

The Verdict

Ejaria is a promising young player with bags of potential, but has seen his development capped at Liverpool due to the number of options available to Klopp at Anfield.

Competitive football is exactly what the player needs to continue his progress into a first-team player, and the former Arsenal trainee will learn a lot under Coleman at The Stadium of Light should a move be finalised.

Fans may harbour reservations of a move due to Ejaria’s lack of experience, but if the player can find his feet in the second tier and exhibit his quality, then Coleman could have a real difference-maker on his hands.
