Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Luke O’Nien is undergoing a medical at the Stadium of Light ahead of a move to Sunderland.
According to a tweet from sports journalist Peter O’Rourke, the 23-year-old central midfielder, who started his youth career at Premier League side Watford, is on the verge of signing for the Black Cats.
O’Nien, who led Wycombe Wanderers to promotion out of League Two last season, scored nine goals and contributed four assists throughout their third place finishing campaign.
The middle man has been subject to interest from a number of teams throughout this summer’s transfer window, after his impressive individual campaign.
Jack Ross has bought in a huge amount of players to Sunderland this summer, and will certainly be going into the League One season as title contenders.
Assuming there are now hindrances or issues with the medical, Luke O’Nien will become the Black Cats tenth signing of the summer.
Luke O’Nien, who had a breakout season in League Two last year, ended the season with an impressive goal and assist tally.
The youngster will be a decent signing for a Black Cats, who have been bust in this summer’s transfer window.
Jack Ross, who took charge of Sunderland earlier this summer, must be given credit for acquiring O’Nien to their squad, as the midfielder holds bags of potential.
