Sunderland's move for Charlie Wyke is nearing completion, according to reports.

According to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Sunday 29th July, 20:39], Sunderland are set to beat Bolton Wanderers to the signing of Bradford City striker Wyke.

Sunderland have made it a priority to bring in an experienced striker with only young duo Josh Maja and Jerome Sinclair on their books at the moment.

Wyke has scored 22 goals in 56 games for Bradford since his move from Carlisle United, where he netted 39 goals in 89 games.

The 25-year-old is closing in on a move to Sunderland, who have been hot on his trail for a while now.

Sunderland have identified the former Middlesbrough academy product as the perfect man to take them back to the Championship given his goal scoring record at this level and the fact that he is still relatively young yet experienced.

The Verdict

Wyke is a marquee signing and it is real statement of intent that Sunderland can beat Championship opposition to land the striker.

The Bradford forward is exactly what Sunderland need: someone with a proven track record of scoring in the lower leagues.

While Maja and Sinclair may be exciting prospects, they need an experienced head to work with and Wyke provides just that.
