According to Sky Sports, Sunderland are in advanced talks with Everton over the signing of Aiden McGeady, with a permanent deal on the horizon.

Simon Grayson, Sunderland’s new boss, is keen to link-up with McGeady at the Stadium of Light, after the pair enjoyed a successful spell together at Preston North End in the Sky Bet Championship last season.

Grayson’s decision to quit Deepdale and move to Sunderland has seen McGeady emerge as a transfer target for the north-east club, who are edging closer to a permanent deal for the Irish international.

McGeady has fallen out-of-favour at Goodison Park, and Everton sent the 31-year old out on-loan to Preston during the 2016/17, where he flourished under Grayson.

The winger made 34 Championship appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring eight goals and adding an impressive nine assists, as Preston finished the season in the top-half of the league table.

Preston had been keen to take McGeady back to Deepdale, but Grayson looks set to sign the Irishman for his new employers.

McGeady does not appear to be the only Evertonian to be heading to the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland reportedly close to securing season-long loans for defensive duo, Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning.
