Sunderland, Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth are all interested in signing Wigan Athletic winger Viv Solomon-Otabor, a report from AllNigeriaSoccer has claimed.
Solomon-Otabor joined Wigan early last season, and made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Latics across the course of the campaign, scoring two goals and providing four assists to help the club avoid relegation from League One.
Having only signed a deal until this summer, Solomon-Otabor could now join another club for free this summer, although Wigan confirmed in their end of season retained list that they have offered the 25-year-old a new contract.
However, it also seems as though Solomon-Otabor could have offers from elsewhere in the Football League to consider over the next few months.
According to this latest update, League One trio Sunderland, Portsmouth and Charlton all have Solomon-Otabor on their list of targets for the summer market.
Meanwhile, Championship duo Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool are also said to be considering making an offer to the winger.
Two of those clubs are familiar from Solomon-Otabor's past. The winger scored five goals in 47 games on loan at Blackpool in the 2017/18 season, and then went on to feature ten times on loan at Portsmouth in 2019, scoring once.
The Verdict
It doesn't feel like a huge surprise to see these links with Solomon-Otabor emerging.
The winger played a useful part in helping Wigan avoid relegation from League One last once season, and his creativity made him a big asset for the Latics.
As a result, you do feel as though the winger could be a worthwhile target for some of those others clubs, given the influence he could have for them.
Indeed, as a free agent, Solomon-Otabor's availability could be useful for those clubs from a financial perspective, and there are a number of appealing options for the 25-year-old to consider here.
