Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has revealed that Max Stryjek could be sent out on loan, local media outlet The Chronicle reports.

It was believed that Stryjek could be handed a chance in the first team set up this season but his opportunities are now looking limited after some recent transfer business at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland had lost last season's number one, Jordan Pickford, who opted to move to Premier League side Everton.

Pickford was followed out of the exit door by Vito Mannone, who became Ali Al-Habsi's replacement at Reading.

As a result, the Black Cats were left with very limited options between the sticks.

Max Stryjek and Mika were their two remaining goalkeepers.

However, Grayson moved quickly to sign Jason Steele from Blackburn Rovers on a long term contract.

As well as Steele, Sunderland remain interested in Robbin Ruiter, who has impressed during a trial stint with the club.

A deal could be struck with the towering Dutchman soon, meaning that Ruiter and Steele will be competing for the starting spot next year with Mika remaining as the third choice stopper.

This once again pushes Max Stryjek down the pecking order and the promising youngster could be sent out on loan to get some experience.

The Verdict

The Poland under-21 international is highly regarded by Sunderland and could benefit from a season of regular playing time in the lower leagues.

The 19-year-old is still very young and chances in the Championship would be limited next season, especially if Ruiter does complete his signing.

If the talented teenager can impress during his loan spell, then he will really stake a claim to be in the senior set-up for the 2018/19 season but a loan is the most sensible short-term move for Stryjek.
