Sunderland surprised many this weekend as they earned themselves a draw at Wolves in the Championship as they battle to get away from the drop.

The men from the Stadium of Light have had a pretty tough campaign so far this season but certainly look a little bit more solid under Chris Coleman.

Of course, there is still much work to do but the draw against the runaway league leaders should seriously boost morale and confidence in what they are trying to do.

One man who might not have received such a boost, though, is Aiden McGeady with the winger getting dropped from the Black Cats' XI for the match at Molineux.

The winger has not been in the best form of late and Coleman made the brave call to drop him to the bench, something that evidently paid off.

When asked about the situation, then, Coleman had this to say about McGeady - with the Shields Gazette:

“I’m going to have to take a look at that but nothing against Aiden at all. He is a very creative player.

“We have struggled offensively and defensively but we’ve got to start somewhere and went with a shape and personnel today I felt was best to face the opposition.

“It may be different next week. It’s horses for courses.”

Clearly, there is still a way back for McGeady to come into the side and make a difference but it is clear that Coleman is not afraid of changing personnel in order to get a result - as he did at the weekend:
