Rotherham's Jon Taylor is a man in high demand this summer, with Sunderland said to be very keen, according to TEAMtalk.

The winger has previously stated that he will leave The Millers this summer, as he wants to play Championship football.

He could get that opportunity if he joins Luton or Barnsley, who are both said to be interested in the 26-year-old, but Sunderland could be the most enticing prospect despite that.

Jack Ross could convince Taylor to join the Black Cats this summer, with the offer of Championship football a likely prospect in a year's time as Sunderland look to gain promotion.

Taylor could be a key part of that team. He has been one of the best wingers in League One in recent years, but in his only two Championship campaigns, Rotherham have been relegated on both occasions.

He will be a big loss for Rotherham. He is a record transfer for the Yorkshire club - thought to be £500,000 - and he was pivotal in getting Rotherham's promotion campaign in the 2017/18 season.

The Verdict

Taylor would be an excellent signing for Sunderland. He would add pace and a constant threat down the right-flank - the type of energy Sunderland missed quite a lot at times last season. From the player's perspective, it would be a great move also.

He still has years left in his career and Sunderland will be back in the Championship before long - and it would be better to play for them rather than Barnsley or Luton, who could be battling relegation next season.
