Sunderland are poised for a huge cash boost as reports suggest that misfit midfielder Didier Ndong is close to securing himself a new deal.

News outlet iSport, reported via the Sunderland Echo, suggest the Gabonese player will soon sign a deal to pick up his faltering career, which will result in a potential windfall of up to £3.5m for the Black Cats.

They report that he's close to securing a move to play for Russian Premier League side Rostov, currently fourth in the division. It is believed they're willing to pay the four million euro (£3.5m) 'fee', as agreed in the terms of his contract termination last month.

Sunderland are already on course to be a title challenger in League One, climbing to second in the table without their marquee signing Charlie Wyke, who is slowly recovering from injury. Duncan Watmore is on his way back too, adding more credibility to their role as genuine title challengers.

With a war chest of £3.5m to utilise in the January window as well, Jack Ross' side will be well equipped to ensure they kick off next season in the Championship.

The Verdict

There's little good can come of the Ndong saga, his attitude shamed the club and disrespected the fans, but at least they can take something away.

If Rostov are interested and he does sign, it will give Ross and the transfer team at the Stadium of Light another huge boost in their quest for promotion.

It must be nice for Black Cat's fans to have some good news after the last couple of seasons.
